In the harsh enviroment of the West Coast of Norway, lies the town Stordal. Here people have produced funiture for generations. Stordal is situated by the end of a deep fjord, and the mountains surrounding this valley is so high that the sun does not shine for several months during winter. With the climate conditions we experience - with howling storms and snow – we spend much time in our homes, in functional, simple and beautiful furniture. Furniture that lasts, and take rough use – like the people who make them. The people who grow up in the atmosphere of Nordic Living.
The history of Norway tells you about people that need to plan, to cooperate, and to invent new functions of existing products. It used to be a very poor country. Their lives were driven by the seasons. Every one had to work in order to harvest, to hunt, to pick berries, to fish – nothing came for free. When the winter came, everything had to be prepared.
The landscape with deep fjords and high mountains made it difficult to travel – so they had to use their imagination to find new solutions in order to work more efficient and in order to find new ways of using existing products. And the products were produced with materials from nature. The long, dark winter nights allowed them to develop their craft – and the long, sunny summer nights allowed them to meet with others and exchange ideas – and to have some fun!
Our newer history shows us that the eagerness and the necessity to find solutions has turned Norway into one of the richest and most developed country with a global perspective and business network. All this, and much more, is our heritage – this is Nordic Living
